Our first days in Kansas

Written by Jarod on January 25th, 2010

I’ve hardly had a free moment since arriving in Kansas to blog, but I’ll say a few quick words right now. We were greeted in Wichita by many dear family members and friends. What a special moment!!! We talked, hugged, cried, took pictures, I read Psalm 66, we sang the Doxology, and then all went out to eat at Braum’s. Dora had had the stomach on the flight there, but recovered fairly well. We were so blessed by new and old friends alike who shared in our joy that evening!

Sunday morning we took everyone to church at Ebenfeld. That too was a wonderful morning - sharing this answer to prayer with all the people who have prayed with us these past 9 years. The offertory was “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and once again, we sang the Doxology to praise God for his miraculous deeds! The kids made a few new friends and got hugged dozens of times. :-)

Sunday night our house was full of family, cousins playing together and all of us catching up. Justin ran into the living room, yelling, “It’s snowing! It’s snowing! It’s snowing!!!!!” Sure enough there were a few little flurries - just enough to let the kids see their first snowflakes!

Today we made a trip to Walmart to stock up on socks, underwear, pajamas, and some other things that we needed in greater quantities in our wardrobes! Many people have been asking how they can help us… It looks like pretty soon we’ll be set with clothes and stuff, but there are going to be some extra expenses here with this many kids and with things like getting a phone in the U.S., traveling, etc. As you all know, money is a very practical commodity. :-) Of course, keep in mind though that we don’t want to take away from funds that need to go to Haiti, so be sure you know how the Lord would have you give.

Back on the farm this afternoon, Justin and Daphne got to learn to shoot bows and arrows under my Uncle Glenn’s expert guidance! They were thrilled! I took pictures and wish I could post them, but the camera I have now can’t download on this computer.

Tonight on Facebook, I saw that dear friends of ours that have been in the adoption process as long as we were are on their way to meet up with their kids just now! I get tears in my eyes just thinking about the joy they’re experiencing right now. Their 2 kids were in an orphanage that was deemed unsafe after the earthquake right there in Port. Praise God for uniting this family at last!!!

Jarod and I are certainly missing each other! Pray for things to come together in his work there in the Lord’s timing that will allow him to join us at the proper time. It looks like another couple weeks could easily be filled in with his responsibilities there. Thanks for praying for his protection and wisdom in all he’s doing.

Well, it’s bedtime for me and the kids! Brendan had the stomach flu today (he had a restless night last night too), so he and I are especially weary.

Thanks for all of you who are praying for us! God continues to bless and sustain us all.
