Last Day in Santiago

Written by Jarod on January 28th, 2010

Last night and this morning, we had four separate vehicles arrive north of Port-au-Prince. Two of them were 35 foot box trucks holding food, medical supplies, tents, tarps, and other needed supplies. One was a flatbed carrying 55 gallon barrels of kerosene, a substitute for jet A fuel, which is turning out to be impossible to purchase here in the DR.  Samaritan’s Purse’s helicopters, that are currently grounded due to lack of fuel, are able to run on kerosene.  We sent a bus load of diesel, as well.  It was our largest load yet, and it’s all ready to be distributed.  We also have three guys on the ground at the drop-off to insure that the loads go where they are supposed to.

Today and tomorrow, we’re loading another 35 foot box truck, which is scheduled to go out on Saturday with two full sized semis, one loaded with tons of food and another loaded with tons of fuel.  It will represent over $100,000 worth of supplies.  It’s amazing just how all of these things are adding up.
